The Fall (2006) - a movie to see

Last week I saw the movie "The Fall". The movie was screened as part of a fiction and sci-fi festival.

One of the first things I liked about the movie is the fact that it's not your average fiction/fantasy/sci-fi movie, in a sense that parts of the plot were happening in early 20th century, rather than a future or alternate universe.

The cast is splendid, and Catinca Untaru does an amazing job in lifting the movie beyond any other movie I've seen in a while. Her ability to play the role, and interact with the main characters, including actor Lee Pace's two characters, make a difference in the movie and help transcend the movie beyond being a "regular" movie.

The fact that the movie was released in 2006 did nothing to affect my appreciation of it. Something about it seems to transcend beyond.

Helvetica - typography movie

I came across this link to the movie, dealing with typography.

I haven't seem it myself, but it is definitely added to the "soon to be watched" movies.

The movie is 1 hour, 22 minutes. You can read more about it in the details about it in its page on IMDB page and in the Helvetica official homepage.

Tron Sequel in the works

One of the better 1980s classics might be coming back - Tron! One of my favorite sci-fi movies might actually get a sequel, as reported in Digg and here.

The first movie proved to be original and unique in its incorporation of CG environments as entire movie sets. It was one of the first movies to do that, even though nowadays we take that sort of a thing for granted.

Tron was also a fun to watch, even though I was a bit to young to understand the tech speak (remember that Personal Computers arrived in the mid 1980s).

New Transformer Toys

transformers logoAs the movie is about to start (July 4th, 2007), Hasbro has released pictures of the new Transformer toys, described here at the "Autoblog".

This gives me the opportunity to voice my opinion that Prime looked a lot better as the Original, season 1, trailer that he was. Why they changed him into this new truck, I can't say, but it is not a change for the better.

More pics on the Hasbro site.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) is probably the best movie your'e going to see in the next couple of months. It tells a story of a real-life family, not the regular Hollywood-perfect family you usually see on the screen, who face several hardships in a very short time. Despite the hardships they find themselves sticking together and helping each other out even when it seems like everyone else has lost hope.

If you ever thought your family is weird, here is your chance to find out that you are not alone - Little Miss Sunshine (2006), in a theater near you.

BTW - no, I don't get money for writing this post. I really enjoyed the movie!

Movies you just have to see

I am hoping to create a list with all the movies people,or students, just "have to see". This list will include movies you have to see at least once, and movies you have to watch at least more.

This is an open list with all the movies that are a "must see". This list in open to input, as I do not know all the good movies out there. Let's just put on a limit on this, they have to be in English and non of them can be X rated or R rated. I am only talking about good-regular-unique movies so please don't spam the list.

The list (in no particular order):

1. Brazil (1985)
2. Dune (1984)
3. Die Hard (1988)
4. Back to the Future (1985)
5. Matrix (1999)
6. Gone with the wind (1939)
7. Grease (1978)
8. Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
9. Tron (1982)
10. Save the Last Dance (2001)
11. Lord of the Rings (2001)
12. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
13. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
14. The Deep End of the Ocean (1999)
15. Spaceballs (1987)
16. Star Wars (1977)
17. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
18. Top Gun (1986)
19. Beetle Juice (1988)
20. Toy Story 2 (1999)
21. Blade Runner (1982)
22. Ghost in the Shell (1995)
23. West Side Story (1961)
23. The Incredibles (2004)
24. Shrek 2 (2004)
24. Animatrix (2003)
25. Monsters Inc. (2001)
26. Total Recall (1990)
27. Schindler's List (1993)
28. Princes Bride (1987)
29. Reservoir Dogs (1992)
30. Pulp Fiction (1994)

A more extensive list I've found online (with similar taste I think...) is this one.
