Star Trek's PADD revisited

Will new eReaders bring the long lost hope to see a PADD sometime in our lifetime to mainstream life? A news article in the New York Times talks about new E-Newspaper Reader that will enable readers to view news and other contents from the electronics device. The device might mimic the look of paper, but it is yet another attempt of real-life to get a hold of a pure sci-fi piece of technology.

Star Trek has had it's own information reader, in form of the PADD. Besides being a Personal Access Display Device, the PADD was a portable method to move information around, a convenient way to carry it, and a mechanism of dictating and recording information.

The Next Step Towards a Holodeck

This interesting article I've found on Digg discusses a technology that could be a step closer to holodeck technology.

The technology itself is not hologram related, but rather related to the physical barrings of an individual.

This is yet another technology related to that which is described in Star Trek, taking us another step closer to the technological advancement that was described in Gene Roddenberry's vision of the Future, as it was portrayed in Star Trek.

LOLTrek

This is a funny trek spin-off that I've come across. Talks about Kirk and the Tribbles in a funny sort of a way.

I found it very interesting to see how the Klingons used to appear in Star Trek TOS, and how much they've changed since then.

I have read that the change was actually due to a tight make-up budget, and so in TNG they were far better looking (as Klingons ;-)).

Star Trek light strobe

One of the things any Star Trek fan remembers about the bridge of any ship of the Federation, Enterprise or otherwise, is the strobing lights underneath the "Screen", or View Screen. Surfing across the web, I found this nice Japanese site (in English) that tells you how you can build a LED flasher to show just that kind of a stobe.

Of course, it's not necessarily something that you'd put underneath you TV or LCD screen, but it is nice, and there are plenty of things you can do with it. The site is here and if you look closely at pattern number 3 you'll see the familiar Star Trek light strobe.
