eBay and StumbleUpon
I just heard about the new M&A between eBay and StumbleUpon, found here.
The rate of M&A all over the Web2.0 world over the last year is just amazing.

Mahalo
A new search engine called Mahalo was just brought to my attention.
The design of the GUI is very attractive (and very web2.0). I couldn't help but notice at the bottom their claim that "Mahalo is the world's first human-powered search engine" (quoted from the main page).
I find that kinda weird, as I recall that Yahoo! started as a human generated database of cool sites, back in the early nineties. It was certainly obvious to be the case when some sites were tagged as "cool" (the sunglasses icon), which is something that a person would/should do rather than a program.
Surfing through the website, it reminds me of the yahoo.com of 1993. I will return to it sometime later after they've evolved a bit more, as they too seem promising.

Firefox at 25 percent
After seeing the link over at Digg I was really excited. Firefox usage around the world has risen to 25%. These numbers were calculated by the W3C counter found here, and go to show the extent of the current transfer rate of users from IE and other browsers to the Firefox.
This rise in users worldwide should go to show that internet websites today need more than ever to be cross-platform usable. Firefox along with other browsers serve an important role today in preserving one of the foundations of the internet - access for all, without discrimination on what type of browser you are using.
Passing the 25% benchmark in the overall traffic of the web should prove a beacon of the change to come. Things are going to become better, and the more open things are, the more cross-platform the web will get, the better.

Want to know more about Copyright and Fair Use?
A good friend sent this link over today, and I just couldn't stop watching - it's so funny, so true, and I believe it also explains the topic very well.
Give it a try, and watch the movie below. It'll be the best way you'd spend 10 minutes of your time.
Update - Just found out that it is originally from Standford Cyberlaw. Way to go guys!
-from the website:
"Synopsis
Professor Eric Faden of Bucknell University created this humorous, yet informative, review of copyright principles delivered through the words of the very folks we can thank for nearly endless copyright terms."
Definitely a keeper :-).

Web 2.0 free button maker
I've come across a new button generator, dubbed the Web 2.0 free button maker. It's a nice website that generates a button of your choosing, and lets you fiddle around with various controls, such as bg color, text size, add Web2.0 icons, and more.
As this is version 0.6 of the site, it's pretty good. One suggestion I do have is to improve the PHP coding a bit, since I could not generate a proper apostrophe to get this blog's name right [the code added a "slash" before the apostrophe for some reason].
All in all, another cool web2.0 button maker for us to use.

Not one of those things you see every day
This BBC story is just unbelievable. At least I can't believe that this is really the world we live in.
If it wasn't dangerous, it would have been funny, really funny.

Keyboard Waffle Iron
Seeing this review in Gizmodo of the Keyboard Waffle Iron, it just looked right. I mean, who wouldn't want to perk-up their breakfast table? and also, what a better way to do it than in a geek sort of a way.
My only wonder is whether the good people at the Googleplex are enjoying Keyboard style waffles every morning, courtesy of their chefs' cuisine.

Geek Blogs
When Computerworld ranked the top 15 geek blogs, you just had to press the link and go check it out. There just isn't any other option.
For one, there's curiosity. You want to know who's out there that you don't already know, who's on the list that you do know.
Another important reason is to know that you're up-to-date with the most important news on the net - and we all know that geeks know the hottest news there is when it comes to tech news.
If you're into tech-news and want to be up-to-date, I suggest you have a look at that list.

Tetris Shelves
What a great concept! This is an amazing storage application that will surely bedazzle anyone who walks into your room.
It's one of those ideas that make you ask yourself, hey, how come no one's ever thought of that before? - Well, no some has, and they have done a good job making it come to life.

LOLTrek
This is a funny trek spin-off that I've come across. Talks about Kirk and the Tribbles in a funny sort of a way.
I found it very interesting to see how the Klingons used to appear in Star Trek TOS, and how much they've changed since then.
I have read that the change was actually due to a tight make-up budget, and so in TNG they were far better looking (as Klingons ;-)).

Quick Update
I know it's been a while since my last post. Many things have happened around the net, and I was unable to find enough free time to blog about them. I guess that's how it is with a new job - you just have less free time :-).
Anyways, as things would have I'd probably switch to updating every 5-7 days and not on a daily basis as I would like. That is how it'll be, at least until I settle down and everything will "chill-out".
There are quite a few things I have to blog about, especially things happening over the past week. It sure was an interesting one around the net.
You'll be able to read about them in the next blogposts.
